StoneyCrete™ Installation Guide
Stoney Creek Materials, l.l.c.

Because StoneyCrete™ Pervious Pavement creates such an Ecologically Dynamic
System, it is imperative to recognize the importance of craftsman-like
installation to produce such a system.
It is also very important to remember we are stewards of this
earth. We are called to produce the
highest quality workmanship for our daily trade. StoneyCrete™ Pervious Pavement allows the concrete/pavement
industry to significantly improve by achieving highly sustainable building practices.
StoneyCrete™
Pervious Pavement allows the pavement to become an integral part of Storm
Water Management, where storm water quickly and efficiently returns into the
earth, thereby reducing the charging of drainage systems with water never
intended to flood and pollute down-stream waterways.
Welcome to the StoneyCrete™ Previous Pavement Installation Guidelines.
The first
step is a mandatory geo-tech study to
assure proper support and infiltration. Soil
Preparation is
accomplished by removing organic material from the surface, grading to proper
elevation and then by box-blading to a smooth surface without
over-compacting. Wet spots should be
eliminated with soil approved by the geo-technical engineer.

A
non-woven polypropylene geo-textile filter fabric is used to protect the
permeability rate of the sub-grade. The
fabric should be inert to biological degradation and resistant to chemicals,
alkali and acid. (Like that of Mirafiâ 140N filter material). Placement of the filter
fabric should be continuous throughout the entire water containment storage
area. This includes both the bottom and
the walls to the finish grade of the storage pond. Seams should be overlapped a minimum of 12”.

The water storage area should have 1½” to 2” CLEAN
aggregate. Aggregate found locally is
typically adequate (soft limestone material should be avoided). Plate compact this large aggregate to obtain
a uniform, flat surface (single pass only). Any truck ruts
or other irregularities in the sub-grade must be smoothed prior to placing the
concrete. Immediately
prior to concrete placement, the aggregate shall be saturated with water in
order to minimize pulling moisture from freshly poured concrete.

Forming is standard
whether the contractor uses hand or a vibratory screed installation. Should an asphalt lay-down machine be
chosen, it is recommended that a metallic “key-way/zip strip” type expansion
joint be used in the slip form of the machine.
This assures a vertical cold joint and prevents raveling of this joint.
Installation
procedure: Upon arrival of the batch truck, the
certified contractor will verify the load and proceed to enter the billing
number, aggregate weight, and ambient temperature into the admixture delivery
system computer. The contractor will
then check the slump of the design mix (4” to 6”). Once the proper slump is attained, the StoneyCrete™
admixture is introduced.

After introduction and 75 revolutions
of the truck drum or 10 minutes (whichever is longer), the design mix is
checked for thoroughness of mixing. If
satisfactory, the design mix may now be delivered to the formed site.
The design mix is leveled in the forms
by hand, vibratory or laser screed. A
radius edger is used to dress the edges.
If necessary, a hand float may be used to “finish” any defects in the
surface. DO NOT over work the
surface. Raveling or sealing will occur
when overworking the surface.

Curing procedures should begin within 20 minutes after placement. It is
recommended that a curing agent be use on all placements. (Contact Stoney Creek Materials, L.L.C. for a list of recommended curing agents) Follow manufactures instructions.

An even application should be applied after edging and finishing as a continuous process to the placement of the pervious concrete. Such applications should happen within the first 20 minutes of placement. A second application may be applied, as soon as the first coat has dried.

Unless extreme weather conditions are present, NO covering is necessary.

and
non-woven polypropylene geo-textile filter fabric (a product like Mirafi
140 NC).
·
Take Slump (4” to 6”
preferred). Adjust to appropriate slump if necessary.
·
Add StoneyCrete™
Admixture (2.5 gallons per yard). Spin truck drum 75 revolutions or 10
minutes, whichever is longer.
·
Thoroughly water
storage aggregate. This prevents
premature hydration of design mix.
·
Deliver to forms.
HAND INSTALLATION:
Screed to top of forms and hand float surface.
VIBRATORY SCREED:
Screed to top of forms. Do not
over vibrate.
LASER SCREED:
Screed to level.
·
NEVER
OVERWORK SURFACE
·
Edge with ¾” radius
edger. (½” radius for small aggregate.)
·
Seal with approved
curing agent or cover with 6 mil plastic for 72 hours minimum.
